:::Breast Cancer Surviver:::

About 2 weeks ago I posted on my facebook page that I was adding a 'Make over' Section to my site. i received a lot of responses. One in particular caught my attention. Tamila, who works for the city of Miami Gardens,  emailed me telling me she would love to be apart of this. So we exchanged info and took it from there. A few days later Tamilla contact me and told me for Breast Cancer month, the city of Miami Gardens was writing a article about a breast cancer surviver, Breazetha 'Brezzy' Smith, and she wanted her to take her place. I told Tamilla I would LOVE to do it and she doesnt have to give up her spot.

So I had to think of the perfect team for this shoot...I thought of  La-La, Thefashionistis for make-up and Winshell Gabriel of Chellea Magazine (Roll over name for more info) because i knew they would be perfect for this and both of their studios are in Miami Gardens. So below are some pictures of the shoot and following that will be the 'Draft' of the article about Mrs. Smith..........

Her story....
"I hope to get some boobies some day," a local woman from Miami Gardens said as she thinks about her triumph over cancer.
Breazetha Smith, 41, is a survivor of breast cancer. But her fight wasn’t just with breast cancer. Smith discovered she had breast cancer in November of 2006. A single-mother of four kids she thought her life was over. She had noticed a lump in her breast and scheduled a doctor’s appointment to do a mammogram. The same day she did her mammogram, she did an ultrasound and a biopsy. Two weeks later the results came back positive. Smith was diagnosed with cancer. "I guess I’m gonna die from cancer,” she said as a reaction to the news. All she could think about was the well being of her four children. Smith is the first person in her family to be diagnosed with cancer. Shortly after, her mindset changed and she decided to take control of the situation. Two weeks after the diagnosis her port for chemotherapy was put in. She had 10 chemo treatments and 41 radiation treatments. Life became very stressful for Smith. Not only was she battling cancer but she was also struggling to make ends meet. Working two jobs and raising four kids alone, bills still fell behind. Her home had gone into foreclosure. But she wouldn’t give up. She would leave chemo and go straight to work. She has worked for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools System for 17 years and five years with the City of Miami Gardens. Right after Smith had her mastectomy things got worse. Her then 15-year-old son was gun down in Opa-Locka on January 28, 2010. With her life looking upside down she refused to give up. She still had three kids to provide and live for. Through the turmoil her family became closer. Her oldest daughter, now 22, stood by her side through everything. Her mother and sister supported her as well. Smith wanted to show her children that she was strong and no matter how tough life got to never give up. Today life is better for her. She still thinks about her son but she finds joy from her other children and bowling. Working two jobs paid off because she still lives in her home. The mastectomy left Smith with no breast. Not having breast limits the type of clothing she wears. She feels as if she isn’t a complete woman and looks forward to getting some boobies. In 2003, she had a kidney transplant. Since then she has gotten involved in order to be a voice in the fight for a cause. Every opportunity she gets she tries to share her story with others. She participates in various breast cancer walks, as well as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.        “There's hope. There's treatment. Don’t give up,” Breazetha Smith, a breast cancer survivor

YAY! Your Getting Married!!!!

Congrats! Your getting Married!!!

There is so much to do, where do we start? Where is the ceremony going to be? Where will the reception be at? What date should we pick? Who will do my hair/make-up????
AHHHHHHH!!!! So many questions!!

Well, I don't know much about dates or places to have a wedding BUT hair or makeup I got you covered.

Here are a few things that will make the process 'A LITTLE' less stressful :)

Referrals- Get some referrals from your family, friends and even co-workers

Do your research- Do some research on that person or salon. Sometimes salon Specialize in doing wedding parties and updos while others specialize in extensions or hair care. So you want to make sure you choose the right fit.

Book a Trial- This is a MUST! I encourage all Brides, Bridesmaid and Mother of Bride to have a trial. Even though you did your research on the Hairstylist/Makeup-artist and you love their work and trust they will do a great job, a trial is still a must. And if you haven't picked or thought about your hairstyle or make-up until 3 days before the wedding, STILL book that trial. (I have a disaster story for you at the end)
**Side note** You may ask when is the best time to do a Trial? Well, I suggest the day your having your Engagement Party, Engagement Pictures or even the Bridal shower. I also suggest doing the make-up and hair at the same time, not on separate days. Because you want to see the your complete look as if it was the day of your wedding. Also why the reason I suggest to book the trial on the day of your engagement party and etc is,well, who wants to get all dolled up no where to go? ;o)

Bring Pictures- So you booked your trial. You know exactly how you want your make-up and hair to be in your mind. Well it has been my experienced that even though you describe your make-up and hair to the stylist, nothing works BEST than to have a picture. What you may have in your head my not not be the same thing the stylist gets from you describing it. So go pick up some bridal magazines or google search hairstyles.

Communicate: So what if even after looking for pics, you don't see what you like? Well bring pictures of hair/makeup you DONT like. That way they know what you don't like and know what not to do. Communicate EVERYTHING you like and EVERYTHING you hate. You wont hurt the stylist/makeup artist feelings and if they do get upset because you don't like something or wants something changed, well then its time to look for another stylist/makeup artist.

Clean face/hair: Always arrive to the trial with a clean palette to get the BEST results.

Well those are just a few suggestions and I'm sure my fellow hairstylist and make-artist and more. So feel free to post below!

***Disaster story***
So a bride calls me on a thurs nite because she was referred to me by a friend and she wanted me to do her wedding. I said sure! when did you want to book a trial? she told me she didnt have time for that cuz her wedding was that SATURDAY! I told her oh noI always do trials. she pleaded with me and agaisnt my better judgement i said yes as long as she sends me a picture of the hairstyle and a pic of herself. Cuz you gotta remember lot of times us hairstylist and makeup artist are going in there blind. Not nknowing if the person has super long hair or short hair that she wants to be long. or if she has facial blemish. So its kinda scary doing an updo the day of the wedding and not knowing what she wants nor how her hair is.

So the pic she sent me was a very easy updo (wheeew) something very simalar to this...
So Saturday comes and im doing my thing. Im practically finish and i look at her in the mirror and she starts to cry! OMG!!! I felt horrible!! I asked her whats wrong!?!? you don't like it?? (stating the obvious lol) she tells me, 'I dont like my forehead, I thought you was gonna give me bangs' Me: 'oh, well the picture doesn't have bangs and you didnt tell me you dont like your forhead nor that you wanted bangs' and THIS is why I STRESS to have a trial. Needless to say i fixed it and she was happy but this jus stress the importance of having a trial, bring a picture and communicate with your stylist/makeup artist of what you like and dislike.
